No crowd, no template, no rushing to keep up. This is a small, private studio session - capped at four people - where you'll work the way I actually work: choosing a palette, a direction and then building your painting up in layers with a selection of different media. Whether you've never painted or you already dabble, my job is to guide you to something you're proud to hang.

Your finished piece is hand-varnished for a true gallery finish and hanging hardware is attached. Your piece will be ready for shipping* or pick-up about a week after the class and will be completely wall-ready!

Syllabus

  • Arrive promptly at class start time. settle in to your painting station and we'll begin by getting to know one another and discussing your inspiration pieces.
  • From those pieces I will help you choose a few cohesive colors to get started on your background, and give you a run-down of the tools available to you.
  • We'll discuss mindset tips that I want you to embrace as you paint.

  • We'll jump into painting our backgrounds, taking turns at the spray paint station outside.
  • We'll add accent colors as we go, layering texture, experimenting with different brushes and noticing where the painting wants to go.
  • Once our backgrounds are done, we'll set them aside for some dry time.

  • We'll practice mark making and make a plan for our next layers.
  • We'll learn some tricks about adding layers onto wet paint without fear
  • Continue painting until the the work feels cohesive and nearing completion.
  • Discussion of finishing details, signatures and edges.

Go Big: Create Your Own Abstract was excellent! Carson’s space is inspiring and was completely prepared for the creative process. She is deeply knowledgeable, provided excellent guidance and gave wonderful encouragement! I had so much fun and now have a completed work of art!

Happy Participants

I love to paint, but I always put it off. Thank you for setting up the canvas, acrylics, spray paints, pastels and brushes for me to experiment with. I especially enjoyed the feedback from you and Martique to get me unstuck. I tend to procrastinate finishing art projects. But with the 3 hour time limit and a lot of encouragement, there was no where to go but the finish line 😆 This is my kind of good time!
